Driving out to Hoosier-land this weekend, ran into quite a bit of flurries and snow ON THE GROUND when I got there. Wiggy! Haven't seen that since I was a lad in northern MN (happened once in JUNE).
Time to shake some stuff out.
My first online Lent in many years; pretty mild for the most part. Don't know if I got as much done as in years I've eschewed it, but I haven't been abusing it (IMO). One thing I didn't do during Lent (not intentionally) is play guitar or bass much. I didn't plan on it, but as "being a good neighbor" was one of my Lenten items; I gave up playing loud with my windows open towards the pot-smoking, foul mouthed, fence wielding bunch to the south of us (it's the only intentionally rude thing I've ever done to any neighbor). It's very hard to be a good neighbor when the people next to you are so messed up. It's even harder when you have been nice to them for years and they actually hate you because you are nice... in fact they had to make stuff up about us so they could justify hating us... Bizarro-land.
Daughter #1 received a Silver Medal (2nd place) in the City-Wide Science fair, she asked not to blog it, but I'll slip it in here between other stuff. Great job Jen!
Daughter #2 received a First Place in her first piano competition. Great Job Marz!
The Prius is now on summer blend, what a difference! It's mileage is on the rise; We got in the low 50's with it on our trip to America's Dairyland last weekend, around the low 40's in "The City" of late.
Last month, I received another management query to see if I'd be interested in days again.
I had to nip it in the bud; until daughter #2 is in High School, it's just not happening. We could do it and both still work, but daughter #2 would have to go to a different school and do three hours of after-care every day, she loves her school and we don't want to do that to her. The Mrs. could stay home again for those years I suppose, but if we want to pay for HS/College and not be broke at retirement age... both of us need to work). I imagine by the time I would like to go to days, they will no longer be offering.
PDA news (or lack thereof). My hobbled together Dell Axim X5 is still holding up, and while it does, I'll continue using it. Given all the accessories I have for it, as long as I can still pick up a re-furb or working used on on ebay, I'll keep using it for a while......but I can't help thinking it may be time to pop for a newer model before the PDA is thought of like a Tandy 1000.
My closest age sister is leaving the country....
Her excellent husband is Jordanian (of Palestinian heritage), he's been here for 12 years, they've been married for eight. His work Visa/citizenship application got mangled after 9/11 happened, and rather than waste money and fight it to the end, they have decided to go back together voluntarily and re-apply at the first possible opportunity. It will be great for her to meet his family, and for him to catch up as well, but we can't help but be concerned for the drastic culture change she'll be experiencing.
We had a family going away party this weekend, the one with friends will be at our place this weekend. Daughter #2 has had a number of crying fits over her leaving, as I'm sure we all will.
Pen, you'll have to keep your Irish in check methinks. We'll be thinking about you every day.
