History DOES repeat itself

Uncharted territory for us......from the parental side of the argument.

Daughter #1 has been flexing her teenage independence musically. For the most part, she likes a lot of the same stuff we like.....which is good because (again, for the most part) we can all listen to most of that music together with daughter #2. As of last week, that has kind of changed, one of her new favs is Panic at the Disco ...all in all a pretty harmless exercise in techno-pop/new wave. She's having a hard time understanding why she can't listen to a song that uses the Lord's name in vain for it's hook while daughter #2 is listening (or sing along with it on her mp3 player when D #2 is around). Of course she knows why, but is just pushing the envelope. The main problem with the song is not just using the Lord's name in vain, but doing it again, again, and again. She clearly knows not to talk that way, but is giving us a quit a bit of flack in the name of "musical freedom". Neither the Mrs or I had any real musical restrictions growing up (other than "TURN IT DOWN!"), but both of us being the youngest, we didn't have to even think about if it was appropriate for a younger sibling to hear (I'm having a flashback just now where I'm 15 and listening to "The Bitch is back", "Who are you"(lyric sheet does not contain the "F" word), and "Sister Morphine").
Weird (well, maybe not) that both the Mrs and I had the same exact discussion with the same responses about PATD's song without even discussing it between ourselves. We both told her she could listen to it on her player, but not in any way where daughter #2 could hear it, and of course not to sing along out loud in front of #2
....the the Mrs did add one additional item....that she'd have to spill in confession for every time she sang the song. On that front the title won't garner much help either...."I Write Sins Not Tragedies".
