Blondie/"New" Cars Mini-review:
Blondie: Same as ever, very energenic club-band type performance. Debbie was having a slight problem hitting the high notes, but still very enjoyable. One of those performances where EVERYONE was singing along with about every song.
Drums were a tad too loud. Set was too short.
"New" Cars: Slick stage setup (lighting, graphics, video, the stage looked like a giant dashboard), excellent sound. Very tight performance. Hard (but not impossible) to tell the difference sound-wise between Todd and Ric O. Ben Orr replacement Kasim Sulton played Bass just fine, but his range is about an octave higher than Ben's was, it made it seem a little too easy for him when singing "Drive" (a song Ben really had to belt out just to hit the notes). Todd threw in a few of his own songs for good measure. The tour has something the tours of the original Cars did not have; Extended solo's (came off as improvised to me) for just about everyone at some point. I don't think the original Cars ever "jammed" on anything (per Ric's orders).
They looked like they were having fun....we did too!
